Junior Summer @ Padworth College

Padworth College is set in the beautiful English countryside, just a short distance along the M4 Motorway from London Heathrow airport. Travel time from London Heathrow airport is 40 minutes and from Gatwick airport is 1 hour.

Padworth is an ideal, safe and peaceful setting for young learners and offers students from all over the world a unique opportunity to enjoy an active holiday in the UK while learning English in a warm and friendly environment.
The Junior Summer @ Padworth College programme allows students aged 10-14 to immerse themselves in the English language under the supervision of qualified teachers and social organisers, who together provide a full programme of teaching and leisure activities, seven days a week.

Course content

With a strong emphasis on authentic communication, the summer school programme delivers stimulating, relevant and learner-focussed English tuition. 21 hours of tuition are included in this programme.

Our enthusiastic and dedicated staff, combined with our innovative and fun teaching methods ensure that students develop and learn at a pace that suits them in a friendly and welcoming educational environment. All of our teachers are native English speakers and hold a CELTA or equivalent teaching qualification.

At Oxford Spires students will join classes of no more than 15 so that they are given maximum attention and opportunity to participate and enhance their learning. In-class preparation for excursions also takes place to maximise learning outside of the classroom.

Our workshops are held weekly across the summer (twice per week in Oxford, and on every teaching day at Padworth) and give learners a unique opportunity to practise English specific to those topics that interest and engage them the most.

They are topic-based lessons and activities which provide an opportunity for students to engage in practical learning in a context that they find interesting.

From computers, to nature studies, to sport, we offer workshops to suit a variety of tastes, in order to provide students with a stimulating and meaningful learning environment.

Workshops must be chosen at the time of booking, at least for the first week, and can be changed on a weekly basis.

For example, for a two-week booking, the first week’s workshop must be booked, and the second one can be booked during the first week. Two different workshops can be chosen during this study period.

Day Trips

Two full day excursions are included in both of the Summer School programmes, and each of the destinations offers a unique cultural and historic experience!

Examples include London, Windsor, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford (for students at Padworth College), and Warwick Castle. Transport and entrance fees are included, and students are advised to bring small amounts of pocket money should they wish to purchase souvenirs.

Afternoon activities

In Oxford there are three afternoons per week with planned excursions to the city centre. The first Monday afternoon of a student’s stay will always be a guided walking tour around the city centre.

Other weekly activities include punting on the river, group games, museum visits, university college visits, and more. Entrances will always be included for scheduled visits.

Evening activities

Evening activities are included for Padworth and Oxford residential programmes every evening. For Oxford homestay programmes, two evening activities are included.

Evening activities take place on or off campus, and include movie nights, quiz nights, discos, ice skating, capture the flag, organised group games, ghost walks, and loads more.
